Brass African Mudfish Pendant |
 |
Able to breath out of water,
and attributed with mythical powers, the mudfish has been an icon of
wealth and divine power in Africa. It's ability to move across land and
water symbolized the mudfish's power to move between two realms -- life
and death, earthly and spiritual, thus becoming a symbol of the king's
divinity. It may bestow great power and wealth upon you, or it may just
make you look divine. Fair trade, so you can feel divine about wearing
it. Made by a woman owned metal casting workshop in Cape Town, South
Africa in the style of the lost wax bronze castings of the Asantes of
West Africa from the 14th and 15th centuries. Two inch pendant on a
coiled metal cord. |

Bead Eyeglass Chain |
 |
It
looks like a wonderful tribal bead necklace, but it also holds your
glasses. Not only will you look good, you'll be able to see, too.
When you don't want or need to wear glasses all the time, you can hang
them around your neck for those times when your arms just aren't long
enough. These wood and multicolor glass bead eyeglass chains are made by
members of Trinity Jewelry in Mathare Valley. On the outskirts of
Nairobi, it is one of poorest areas in Kenya with limited access to
employment and education. Trinity Jewelry provides members with a
monthly income, profit sharing and a pension plan. The beads, made by
local families who use amber, wood, glass, clay and seeds, are lovely in
their own right. You may never view your glasses the same after you add
this chain to them. |
